xFoundry@UMD is an innovation-driven program where students take on immersive competitions and projects designed to cultivate the mindset and skills of a founder. Launched out of the E. A. Fernandez IDEA Factory, xFoundry empowers students to navigate ambiguity, think creatively under pressure, and collaborate across disciplines to solve complex, real-world challenges.

00 Summary

Problem

As xFoundry began expanding beyond UMD, its original website needed a redesign to better reflect its role on campus. The site felt outdated and lacked a clear message, failing to capture the energy, impact, and mission of the program. While looking outward, it was just as important to ground xFoundry’s presence at UMD with a site that felt engaging, clear, and aligned with its future direction.

TASK

Redesign the xFoundry@UMD website by creating high-fidelity prototypes in Figma and developing a unified design system. This included establishing consistent colors, typography, components, and layouts to support both xFoundry’s presence on campus and its expansion beyond UMD.

gOALS

Clarify xFoundry’s identity on campus through a refreshed, engaging web presence
Create a scalable design system with a consistent branding
Improve user experience and navigation to help students, faculty, and partners easily understand and engage with the programs offered
Support xFoundry’s expansion beyond UMD by building a flexible visual foundation
